Mathematical Scientific Computing

In many applications in mathematics and the natural sciences, the aim is to compute a property or a solution. Both from a theoretical and a practical perspective is often a highly non-trivial task to do so. The development of algorithms that can compute the desired quantity is a general and very broad question both from a mathematical and practical point of view. The algorithms themself have many underlying properties that need careful consideration. These include, but are by no means limited to accuracy of the approximation of the desired quantity, complexity of the algorithm, structure of the algorithm, etc. This concerns aspects such as the number of elementary operations that are required to achieve a specific goal and the specific underlying architecture that can be used to achieve this in practice.

Research is done with the framework of the Institute of Numerical and Applied Mathematics. Classes are taught in the mathematical education program.
